Our organization has secured multi-year funding and is now in a growth phase. We are conducting a national search to support the expansion of our footprint and funding streams. Candidates from other regions, especially the Midwest and Southern states, are encouraged to apply.
KOO currently partners with school districts across the country to offer leadership development and systems change that ultimately improves the educational and life outcomes of Black boys by “healing the fish while treating the toxic ecosystem” of our school systems.
About the Role
Kingmakers of Oakland seeks to hire a Development Manager to work closely with the Managing Director of Business Development to accelerate the realization of an ambitious vision and growth strategy for one of the nation’s most promising, quickly growing, Black-led education non-profit start-up organizations.
The Development Manager will support our fundraising activities, including managing grant deliverables, drafting new grant applications, maintaining accurate records, and researching fundraising opportunities.

About the Candidate
The successful candidate is detail-oriented, creative in bringing organization to, and brings emotional intelligence and strong interpersonal skills to the art and science of excellent fund development with individual, foundation, government and corporate donors.

- Self-motivated: You proactively take the initiative, identifying problems and opportunities across your portfolio, developing recommendations, and acting on those recommendations.
- Visual Creativity: You might not be a designer by training, but you have an eye for design and can create compelling visual media.
- An Abundant Thinker: You believe that we live in a world of abundant resources and that the right team of partners can achieve remarkable things
What You Will Need
- A passion for our mission
- Minimum two years of direct experience working in fund development, preferably in a non-profit or school setting, but we are excited about candidates with unique work histories that, ideally, include experience identifying, cultivating, and stewarding annual donors, foundations, and corporate sponsorships
- Lived or professional experience in Black-led spaces and an understanding of the unique diversity within this community
- Ambitious problem-solver who can multitask and prioritize while working in an energetic environment
- Database experience, e.g., Salesforce or similar CRM donor management
- Clear communicator, both written and verbal, with strong attention to detail
- Strong computer skills and proficiency with Google Apps, online research, and general familiarity with databases
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to adjust as needed
- Ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, stakeholders, vendors, etc.
- Ambition, organization, and takes initiative
What We Offer
This full-time, exempt remote position requires occasional in-person attendance. Excellent benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, sick leave, vacation, paid holidays, an employee assistance program, and a retirement plan.
Compensation
$70,000 - $75,000 annually. Starting rate based on previous experience and relevant skills and knowledge set.
