Position Summary 

The successful candidate will join a Black-led organization with a team of passionate, fun, intelligent professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to engaging, encouraging, and empowering the next generation of leaders and changemakers.

Kingmakers of Oakland seeks an experienced data professional to ensure the organization’s ability to carefully monitor and measure the success and impact of its work, use formative and summative data for decision-making, organizational learning, and communicate the data’s implications internally and externally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Data Management and Evaluation

  1. Evaluate existing qualitative and quantitative data for Kingmakers of Oakland and its partner districts to align with desired metrics across program areas.
  2. Consult the Senior Leadership Team and Program Delivery & Events staff to design the necessary programmatic assessment and evaluation tools.
  3. Identify appropriate and effective data collection metrics for Kingmakers of Oakland and school district partners.
  4. Work with staff throughout the organization to identify opportunities for leveraging data to drive organizational improvements.
  1. Mine and analyze data from existing Kingmakers databases to drive programmatic improvements and business strategies.
  2. Assess the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  3. Coordinate with different departments to implement models and monitor outcomes.
  4. Develop processes and tools to monitor and analyze performance outcomes and data accuracy.


Data Systems and Design

  1. Design comprehensive data systems that collect and analyze information across Kingmakers of Oakland programmatic areas.
  2. Design data collection and evaluation systems that measure knowledge transfer and impact across participating school districts.
  3. Formulate techniques for managing quality data collection to ensure the data's adequacy, accuracy, validity, and credibility.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, data management software, and online communications platforms; experience with UpMetrics, Tableau, Salesforce, MySQL or other relational databases.
  5. Use predictive modeling to increase client experiences, revenue generation, and other business outcomes.
  6. Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.



  1.  Provide outcomes reports demonstrating the impact of KOO for students and districts served and return on investment for district partners and funders. 
  2. Create weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual visual and statistical reports that help shape the narrative of Kingmakers of Oakland to be used in marketing, communications, fundraising, grant writing, strategic planning, and business development.
  3. Support the Managing Director of Business Development with data needs related to grant applications and reporting to donors.
  4. Manage the creation of an Annual organizational Report.
  5. Additional duties as assigned.


Business Development

  1. Make evidence-based recommendations to inform and refine program delivery.
  2. Cultivate relationships to expand the brand of Kingmakers of Oakland.
  3. Consult with leadership and thought partners on establishing strategic initiatives to increase partnerships, business development, and program impact.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)


  • Mission alignment as it relates to engaging, encouraging, and empowering youth of color and towards systemic change in education
  • Minimum 7 years of experience managing a data analytics or master data team
  • Expert ability to evaluate, prototype and recommend open source and vendor technologies and platform
  • Expertise in data management best practices such as data integration, data security, data warehousing, data analytics, metadata management and data quality
  • Proven experience and/or education in data management and analytics
  • Proven ability to inspire confidence, create executive presentations and guide strategic discussions with senior management.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all matters
  • Maintain working knowledge of Industry, systems, process, and products
  • Mastery using data related software tools, experience with UpMetrics a plus
  • Mastery of standard office software programs including GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom and video conferencing, and a variety of web-based platforms
  • Ability to understand and adapt to changing business priorities and technology advancements
  • Strength in working independently and in collaboration with small and large teams
  • Must possess exceptional communication skills, including written and verbal 
  • Demonstrate intercultural competence for diverse populations
  • Maintain accuracy while multitasking 
  • Exceptional problem-solving aptitude
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to successfully navigate within a young start-up nonprofit environment
