Position Summary 

The successful candidate will join a Black-led organization that has a team of passionate, fun, intelligent professionals who have demonstrated a commitment to engaging, encouraging, and empowering the next generation of leaders and changemakers. This position is remote until further notice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of the Director of Curriculum and Training, create culturally responsive curriculum to be licensed to district partners
  • Develop course outlines, and lesson plans
  • Develop teacher training materials that align with the new curriculum 
  • Conduct needs assessments to determine which topics need to be covered in the new curriculum
  • Develop syllabi and lesson plans to ensure that topics are taught within the best practices of personified learning
  • Develop textbooks or other instructional materials such as workbooks or study guides as needed
  • Use current technology to create lesson plans that are dynamic and engage students in the learning process, i.e.  computer programs, interactive whiteboards 
  • Select age-appropriate texts or other materials 
  • Develop educational materials to use with curriculum, handouts, tests, and quizzes
  • Review digital social media platforms to keep materials current and relevant
  • Attend meetings and retreats as scheduled
  • Additional duties as assigned

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

 

  • Mission alignment as it relates to engaging, encouraging, and empowering youth of color and towards systemic change in education
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Curriculum Designer or an equivalent of education and experience in a related discipline
  • Experience in culturally responsive pedagogy and anti-racist curriculum development, project-based instruction, and alternative assessment
  • Familiar with African and African American history
  • Strong digital and research skills
  • Excellent collaboration skills and vast experience with networking 
  • Comfort with ambiguity and ability to successfully navigate within a young start-up nonprofit environment
  • Understand and work within scope of authority
  • Communicate and articulate verbally and in writing at an exceptional level
  • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all levels of staff, stakeholders and Board members
  • Proficiency with common office software programs including GSuite, Microsoft Office, Zoom and video conferencing, and a variety of web-based platforms
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for, a diverse population
  • Work independently with little direction
  • Willingness to take responsibility for ensuring completion of work across diverse and collaborative teams
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple simultaneous responsibilities
  • Value and contribute to a workplace culture based on trust, collaboration, respect and honesty
